A radio newsman, Trout began his news reporting career at Virginia’s WJSV in 1931. He was quickly brought into CBS, and was the one who dubbed President Franklin Roosevelt’s radio addresses the “fireside chats”.
His World News Roundup started with Hitler’s invasion of Poland in 1938, and was a regular feature for decades. More recently, Trout was known as a producer and commentator for All Things Considered on National Public Radio. Trout died November 14 from congestive heart failure in New York. He was 91.
