A physicist interested in the interaction of subatomic particles, Cormack taught at Tufts University in Medford, Mass. But he was best known for developing the technology that led to the CAT (computerized axial tomography) scanner. He and his British colleague won a Nobel Prize in Medicine for their work. Cormack died May 9 of cancer at 74.
